Big Brothers Big Sisters is partnered with Noble Middle School to provide a few one-to-one mentors to youth in 6th grade. Adult volunteers meet weekly, for 1 hour with their Little Brother or Sister each week school is in session from early October through early June, from 11:24 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The day of week is mutually agreed upon.
What will I do when I meet my mentee at school? You and your mentee decide together what you'd like to do. Some matches like to play chess or a card game, others enjoy crafts or taking a walk outside. Homework help now and then is okay too. The most important thing is to be a good listener and friend.
What if I can't make it every week? Consistency and reliability are important to establishing a good relationship. An occasional absence due to vacation or illness is something we anticipate and can work with.
What if we get along great and want to continue next year? That's wonderful and highly encouraged! You will can see your Little in 7th grade, too. The time may be different.
"Being a Big Brother is a great experience, we get along really well and I know he's happy to see me. His teachers say he's been in a brighter mood since he's had a mentor and he's doing noticeably better remembering his homework. Mostly we talk, sometimes we walk and talk."
